A ski lift and ski slope have been opened in the village of Bišina near Nevesinje—the first of their kind in this area—according to the Nevesinje Tourist Organization.
The project was implemented in cooperation with the Municipal Administration, the mountaineering club Zimomor, the Šampion Sports School, and the Bišina restaurant, located nearby, which provided the land and necessary infrastructure.
The ski area is located in the immediate vicinity of the Mostar–Nevesinje road, and the use of the ski slope, ski lift, and equipment is free of charge for all visitors.
The Tourist Organization invited not only residents of Nevesinje but also those from neighboring municipalities to come and enjoy the winter scenery and to introduce their children to winter sports.
Ski instructors will be present on the slope throughout the winter and will provide free training to those interested in learning the sport.
Nevesinje Tourist Organization Director Darko Marić expressed hope that weather conditions will be favorable so the destination can operate for as long as possible during the winter season.
“With this project, we are trying to revive the winter tourist season in our municipality,” Marić said, thanking everyone who helped bring the idea to life.
Saša Mitrić, a coach at the Šampion Sports School in Nevesinje, said they have 35 pairs of skis received as a donation.
“All children who wish can use the skis and all equipment free of charge. We have three coaches at the sports school, and they will try to be here as long as the season lasts,” Mitrić said.
Deputy Mayor of Nevesinje Bogdan Botić stressed that the opening of the ski slope means a great deal for the municipality.
“This part of Bišina was popular even earlier. There is more snow here than in Nevesinje, and our neighbors from Mostar used to come sledding. The main road is nearby, and we also have a restaurant offering excellent service,” Botić said.
He added that there are many ideas to further revitalize the area, such as acquiring snowmaking machines and additional improvements to the slope, and announced that work in this direction will continue.
Zoran Parović, the owner of the Bišina restaurant, said there has long been a desire to present this attractive location to visitors.
He announced additional facilities at the site, such as bungalows, and the development of both winter and summer tourism.
