Councillors of the Višegrad Municipal Assembly have adopted a decision to erect a bust of Dragiša Nedović, the author of the well-known song “In the Beautiful Old Town of Višegrad”.
Dejan Krsmanović, Head of the Department for Spatial Planning and Housing and Communal Affairs of the Municipality of Višegrad, told Srna that the bust was donated to the municipality by a group of citizens from Kragujevac who admire the life and work of Dragiša Nedović.
“The bust will be placed at Bikavac, one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Višegrad. The municipality has completed the necessary procedures, all required permits have been issued, and preparations for its installation will be carried out during this week,” Krsmanović said.
He pointed out that the erection of the bust represents a lasting sign of gratitude to a man whose creative work left an indelible mark on the cultural history of Višegrad.
“Through his lyrics and music, Dragiša Nedović carried the name of Višegrad throughout the region. His song about the beautiful old town of Višegrad has become a kind of anthem of the town and part of the identity of numerous generations. That is why we believe it is only natural for the town to receive a memorial dedicated to the artist who indebted it in such a special way,” Krsmanović said.
According to him, the installation of the bust will contribute to preserving the memory of one of the most important authors of folk music in this region, while also enriching the tourist and cultural offer of Višegrad.
Dragiša Nedović was one of the most prolific Serb composers and lyricists, the author of a large number of songs that became part of the folk music heritage, among which a special place is held by the song “In the Beautiful Old Town of Višegrad”.
