An exhibition titled Linocut (Linorez) by artist Milan Krajnović has opened at the gallery in Novi Grad, presenting a selection of 16 prints from several periods of his artistic career.
Krajnović said this was his first solo exhibition in Novi Grad, although his works have previously been presented at individual exhibitions in Banja Luka, Belgrade and Novi Sad.
The artist has also participated in more than 200 juried group exhibitions around the world, establishing a significant presence in the field of printmaking.
Exploring the artistic language of printmaking
Art theorist Daria Vujasin described the exhibition as an important opportunity for audiences to engage with printmaking as an artistic medium and appreciate visual expression that places art itself at the center of attention.
“The exhibition offers an opportunity to once again discuss pure visual expression and the language of art, subjects that receive too little attention today,” Vujasin said.
She emphasized the technical complexity of printmaking, explaining that the process requires not only precision but also a distinctive approach to composition, artistic thinking and the treatment of surfaces.
According to Vujasin, creating a print often involves working with multiple surfaces, producing test impressions, repeating procedures and making numerous attempts before achieving the desired result.
These demanding techniques make printmaking a particularly complex artistic discipline.
Nevertheless, she noted that Krajnović manages to maintain a sense of ease and freedom in his artistic expression.
“In his work, Krajnović preserves the lightness of visual composition without burdening his artistic expression with additional contexts, remaining faithful to the language of visual art itself,” she explained.
An important addition to Novi Grad’s cultural program
Mirjana Drljača, Director of the Novi Grad Cultural and Educational Center, described Krajnović’s exhibition as one of the most interesting events in this year’s gallery program.
“The Novi Grad audience has the opportunity to welcome an artist who is a professor at the Academy of Arts in Banja Luka and who has achieved notable results in printmaking,” Drljača said.
She added that the Cultural and Educational Center is approaching the end of the year with a series of high-quality exhibitions.
