China’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Security Council Sun Lei stated during the session on Bosnia and Herzegovina that China maintains its position that Christian Schmidt was never confirmed by the UN Security Council.
“It is essential to respect the principle of non-interference in internal affairs. The future of Bosnia and Herzegovina should be in the hands of its peoples, while its issues should be independently decided and managed by the peoples themselves. China has taken note of Schmidt’s announcement that he will resign from the position of High Representative. Our position on this issue remains unchanged,” Sun Lei stated.
He added that Schmidt’s appointment was never confirmed by the UN Security Council.
“The institution of the High Representative and the Bonn powers represent special arrangements created for a specific period. They should not be prolonged, and even less should they become permanent,” he added.
