A musical-poetic evening titled “Sheltered in Song” was held at the “Žarko Vidović” Gallery in East Ilidža.
Visitors had the opportunity to enjoy a performance by soprano Maja Novosel, pianist Luka Novosel, and poet Ognjen Kandić, who entered into a unique artistic dialogue with the visual expression of painter Milivoje Unković through music and poetry.
“These days, throughout Republika Srpska, we are marking numerous events and anniversaries from the recent history of the Serb people. In that spirit, we conceived tonight’s program as a musical-poetic prayer for all the martyred lands of the Serb nation and for all known and unknown Serb martyrs sheltered in song—upon whose sacrifice we today build our freedom and existence,” said Kandić.
He added that they also keep in mind the vows of Saint Lazar and Saint Sava.
Kandić warned against falling for false sympathizers and enemies who claim that Serbs should forget their glorious history.
“The future must not be built on the forgetting of the past,” is the message of this young and talented poet.
According to him, through their songs and verses, the trio symbolically offered incense to the victims of Jasenovac, Kosovo and Metohija, Stari Brod, the Herzegovinian pits, and other Serb execution sites.
Maja Novosel expressed her satisfaction that she and her husband Luka had the opportunity to offer their fellow citizens a medley of traditional and spiritual songs that speak of the Serb people’s struggle for freedom throughout history and their suffering for Christ.
This event was held as part of the exhibition “The Path to Heaven”, a cycle of paintings and sculptures by academician Unković, which has been on display this summer at the “Žarko Vidović” Gallery.
