Wheelchair basketball club KKI Vrbas from Banja Luka will begin the new BiH Premier League season with a reshaped squad, following the departure of one of its key players, Vlado Švraka, who has continued his career in Austria.
Despite losing one of their strongest performers, the Banja Luka club remains optimistic about achieving good results in the upcoming championship.
Vrbas will open the season on Sunday, October 18, when they host KIK Sana from Sanski Most at the Obilićevo Sports Hall in Banja Luka.
Umičević confident in team’s potential
KKI Vrbas President Marinko Umičević expressed confidence that the remaining players would rise to the challenge and give their best throughout the season.
“As the old saying goes, life must go on without those who are no longer here. I am confident that the players in our squad will do everything they can to achieve the best possible results in the upcoming season,” Umičević said.
He hopes Vrbas will begin the new campaign with a victory against Sana.
“I hope we will secure a win against KIK Sana in the opening round and start the new BiH Premier League season in the best possible way,” he added.
Umičević also invited local supporters to attend the match and encourage the team.
“I invite our fellow citizens to support our team and see what it means to leave your heart on the court,” he said.
Captain Biljana Nedić believes Vrbas can compete with any opponent
Team captain Biljana Nedić also expressed optimism ahead of the opening fixture, pointing to the team’s recent preparation match against Una Sana in Bihać.
“After the test match we played against Una Sana in Bihać, I believe we are ready for the challenges awaiting us in domestic competition,” Nedić stated.
She praised the players who have been given additional responsibilities following changes to the squad.
“The players who were given an opportunity made good use of it, and I believe we will not have major problems in Sunday’s match against the experienced team from Sanski Most,” she said.
Despite acknowledging that Vrbas enter the season with a weakened squad, Nedić remains confident in the team’s competitive strength.
“Although we are not at full strength, I am convinced that we can compete on equal terms with our rivals,” the captain concluded.
