The monodrama Mother Kozara, produced by the Donja Gradina Memorial Site, was performed at the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade as part of the “Days of Republika Srpska in Serbia” event.
Belgrade actress Maja Kolundžija Zoroe performed the monodrama, based on Skender Kulenović’s famous 1942 poem Stojanka, the Mother from Knežopolje. The performance is dedicated to the memory of the innocent victims of the Ustasha genocide and the Jasenovac concentration camp system, including its largest killing site at Donja Gradina.
Tanja Tuleković, Director of the Donja Gradina Memorial Site, told Srna that the institution pays tribute each year to the innocent victims of the Ustasha genocide in the Independent State of Croatia through an artistic work intended to express empathy with those who suffered and were killed within the Jasenovac concentration camp system.
Tuleković noted that the monodrama was performed in Serbia for the first time and expressed satisfaction with the strong interest shown by the audience.
Marko Krstić, Director of the Ethnographic Museum, welcomed the audience and said that the gatherings organized as part of “Days of Republika Srpska in Serbia” and the upcoming “Days of Serbia in Republika Srpska” represented, for him, meetings between brothers and sisters.
Mother Kozara premiered in Republika Srpska in April, ahead of the annual commemoration and memorial service at Donja Gradina.
Audiences in Serbia will also have an opportunity to see the monodrama in Subotica on September 21.
