U.S. Congresswoman Celeste Maloy has sent a letter to the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), requesting that it examine the actions of Christian Schmidt and the Central Election Commission of BiH (CEC) in connection with democratic processes in Republika Srpska.
Maloy drew attention to the possibility that BiH-level officials were involved in the process that led to the removal of democratically elected Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik.
“I am writing regarding information recently submitted to OFAC concerning the actions of Christian Schmidt and the CEC in connection with the removal of the democratically elected President of Republika Srpska,” Maloy stated in the letter, which was reviewed by The Daily Caller News Foundation.
Maloy, a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives, said that, according to information available to her, OFAC had received materials alleging that the actions of Schmidt and the CEC could be characterized as interference in the democratic process in Republika Srpska.
In the letter, dated August 31, Maloy requested that OFAC conduct a detailed review of the submitted materials and said she was awaiting the results of the examination.
