Tonino Picula apparently still believes that policy toward Republika Srpska should be conducted through threats and punishment, Milorad Dodik wrote on X, stressing that Republika Srpska will not shape its policies, positions or attitude toward its own history according to what Picula considers acceptable.
“We will not ask for his permission either for our political positions or for the way we preserve our historical memory. Calling on the European Union to be ‘tougher’ toward one people and its legitimately elected representatives is not European policy – it is a policy of pressure,” Dodik said.
He argued that such an approach toward Republika Srpska had failed to produce results in the past and would not succeed now.
“Such a policy toward Republika Srpska did not produce results before, and it will not produce results now. If Picula’s vision of European policy is to punish those who do not think like him, then the problem is not Republika Srpska, but such an understanding of Europe,” Dodik said.
Addressing Picula directly, Dodik added that the attention devoted to him showed his political relevance, while dismissing Picula’s importance to him personally.
“I understand that I am important to you and many others, since you spend so much time dealing with me. You are irrelevant to me. Piculas come and go. I remain. And Republika Srpska is eternal,” Dodik concluded.
