The District Public Prosecutor’s Office in Bijeljina and the Zvornik Police Administration have launched an investigation into alleged financial irregularities involving the Srebrenica Memorial Center, according to local media reports.
The investigation was reportedly initiated following a complaint submitted to prosecutors last year and is being conducted by officers from the economic crime unit.
According to the reports, current and former employees of the Memorial Center have been invited to provide statements as investigators examine allegations of unlawful spending and suspicious financial transactions.
The case is currently in the pre-investigation phase, with authorities carrying out preliminary checks. No formal criminal charges or investigative report have been filed at this stage.
Emir Suljagić, director of the Srebrenica Memorial Center, said on social media that 26 current and former associates of the institution had received summonses for questioning. He stated that the Memorial Center had received positive audit opinions in previous years and described the actions of the police and prosecution as hostile toward the institution.
In a separate statement, the Srebrenica Memorial Center condemned the questioning of its current and former employees by the Zvornik Police Administration and the District Public Prosecutor’s Office in Bijeljina, stating that it would use all available legal means to protect its staff.
The competent authorities have not publicly commented further on the ongoing pre-investigation proceedings.
