New monodrama It’s Not Easy Being an Actor premieres in Novi Grad

A new monodrama, It’s Not Easy Being an Actor, written and performed by Srećko Marčeta from Novi Grad, premiered in the town, offering audiences an intimate portrayal of life on stage and the unseen realities behind the curtain.

The performance follows an actor’s personal journey through hardship, war, family loss, and the determination to fulfil his father’s wish by dedicating his life to the theatre.

The monodrama also explores themes including social expectations, unfulfilled love, and the common misconception that actors enjoy a life of wealth and glamour.

“Audiences see an actor on stage for an hour and think it is easy, but it is a constant challenge to hold the attention of people who come to the theatre carrying their own burdens,” Marčeta said, adding that an actor’s greatest reward remains the applause received after countless hours of rehearsals and sleepless nights.

Marčeta is the founder of the Scena Theatre, which has been active in Novi Grad for 17 years, and has written and staged 12 monodramas to date.

The premiere, held at the amphitheatre of the Cultural and Educational Centre, concluded this year’s Petrovdan Days, a programme marking Novi Grad Municipality Day, featuring cultural, sporting, and entertainment events throughout the past month.
