President of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska Nenad Stevandić responded to criticism from Croatian MEP Stephen Nikola Bartulica regarding the Jasenovac exhibition in Strasbourg, stating that the “defamation being spun has already been dismissed in court.”
Stevandić emphasized that he has never been suspected or charged in relation to the creation of Republika Srpska, adding that it “preserves the anti-Ustaša legacy.” He also noted that he received compensation through the courts for previous accusations.
The controversy followed the opening of the exhibition Jasenovac – Remembrance and Warning in Strasbourg, attended by a delegation of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska.
Bartulica had earlier stated that the “injection of the so-called ‘Serbian world’ concept into EU institutions is scandalous,” to which Stevandić replied that “denying the truth about anti-Nazism and Ustaša crimes means choosing a side,” adding sarcastically that such claims should be “tested in Strasbourg through controversial concerts.”
The situation highlights the sensitivity of historical memory and differing interpretations of the past within the European political space.
