U.S. General and former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn delivered a lecture today in Banja Luka, hosted at the headquarters of the Government of Republika Srpska.
The lecture focused on current geopolitical developments and was attended by the Prime Minister of Republika Srpska, Savo Minić, Speaker of the National Assembly Nenad Stevandić, and SNSD leader Milorad Dodik, along with ministers, MPs, and representatives of institutions at the BiH and local levels.
Responding to a question from the President’s adviser Ana Trišić Babić on “how to fight for freedom,” Flynn said that any people seeking independence must understand how it is defined under international law.
“A state must have a functional government, sovereignty, and international recognition. National unity is crucial, as are legitimacy and an administration capable of ensuring infrastructure, energy, healthcare, education—these are the elements of a nation-state,” Flynn said.
Addressing a question from Dodik on what he described as the Islamization of Europe, Flynn argued that citizens must take responsibility through participation in elections and civic engagement. He also made controversial remarks about Islam, describing it as a political philosophy, particularly in the American context.
Commenting on the European Union, Flynn said he was not a supporter of what he called “arrogant bureaucrats,” arguing that the EU makes decisions affecting hundreds of millions of people that, in his view, many do not support.
“Today we are reaching a point where people can be imprisoned simply for speaking what they believe to be the truth,” Flynn said, adding that global governance models—including the United Nations and the Dayton Peace Agreement—are being reassessed in light of current geopolitical shifts.
He stressed that the United States’ strategic goal is to prevent Iran from ever acquiring nuclear weapons, adding that American policy in the Middle East seeks to neutralize what he described as Iran’s military capabilities.
Flynn also said that the U.S. is “managing developments” in the Middle East and criticized certain European media outlets as anti-American. He mentioned cooperation with the Gold Institute for International Strategy, which he chairs, noting that representatives from 12 European nations are involved in discussions on new global cooperation models.
Who is Michael Flynn?
Born in 1958 in Rhode Island, Flynn served more than three decades in the U.S. Army, primarily in military intelligence. He held senior positions during the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and served as Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency from 2012 to 2014.
In January 2017, Flynn was appointed National Security Adviser to President Donald Trump, though his tenure was short-lived. After leaving office, he remained an influential figure in U.S. political and conservative circles, frequently criticizing previous administrations and advocating closer cooperation between the United States and Russia in counterterrorism efforts.
Flynn recently hosted Milorad Dodik in the United States, where they discussed strengthening relations between the U.S. and Republika Srpska.
