Republika Srpska Minister of the Interior Željko Budimir has stated that defense industry company Orao should become a regional leader in drone production, announcing that the Government of Republika Srpska plans to invest in the development of this sector.
Speaking on the occasion of Orao’s 82nd anniversary, Budimir emphasized the company’s importance to the defense industry and its potential to expand into new technological fields.
“The Government will invest resources in this direction in the coming period, and this cannot be achieved without Orao. Drones will certainly become part of Orao’s activities in the future. I urge them to be prepared for that,” Budimir said.
Workers are the foundation of Orao’s success
Budimir highlighted the dedication and expertise of the company’s employees, including skilled workers, aircraft mechanics, technicians, engineers and administrative staff.
He emphasized that Orao would not exist today without the people who, in 1995, carried out the evacuation of the company’s operations from Sarajevo.
According to Budimir, their efforts preserved one of Republika Srpska’s most important defense industry enterprises during a particularly difficult period.
He described the evacuation as a remarkable achievement that ensured the survival of the company’s technological capabilities.
Budimir stressed that Orao’s greatest strength lies in its workforce and confirmed that the Government of Republika Srpska would continue supporting the company.
Government support to strengthen Orao’s commercial potential
The Minister recalled that the Government had provided assistance to Orao this year, helping the company prepare for new business opportunities.
He explained that these efforts are intended to strengthen Orao’s position and encourage its expansion into the commercial market.
“I wish Orao many more years of flying high. Our people and everyone who leads Republika Srpska in the future must never forget the remarkable achievement of Orao’s workers, who in 1995 preserved the ability of the Serb people to possess such advanced technology,” Budimir stated.
Budimir highlights Serb aviation heritage
Speaking as a recreational pilot, Budimir also expressed pride in the aviation history of the Serb people.
He recalled that Serbs have had an aviation tradition dating back to 1912 and highlighted the development of the IK-3 fighter aircraft, which he described as one of the finest aircraft in the world.
The defense industry company Orao celebrated its 82nd anniversary at a ceremony held the previous evening, marking more than eight decades of operations and technological development.
