Serb member of the Presidency of BiH Željka Cvijanović has welcomed what she described as growing international recognition that political issues in Bosnia and Herzegovina must be resolved through agreements among domestic political representatives rather than decisions imposed from abroad.
Commenting on the latest United Nations Security Council session dedicated to BiH, Cvijanović said the discussions had not unfolded as some had anticipated following the report submitted by the Office of the High Representative (OHR).
“The UN Security Council session dedicated to BiH has also taken place. Although many sought to create and provoke tensions following the OHR report, the session unfolded in a way that did not fulfil their expectations,” Cvijanović stated.
Clear differences over international intervention in BiH
In a post on X, Cvijanović highlighted what she described as a clear division between those advocating continued international intervention and those calling for an end to externally imposed political decisions.
“There was a clear difference between those who advocate endless interventions and those who speak of the need to end the era of unconstitutional impositions,” Cvijanović wrote.
She emphasized that the discussions demonstrated an increasingly widespread understanding of the importance of domestic political dialogue.
“It is particularly important that the session confirmed a growing recognition that political issues in BiH must be resolved through internal agreement rather than external imposition,” she added.
Republika Srpska committed to peace and constitutional rights
Cvijanović reaffirmed that Republika Srpska remains committed to preserving peace, stability and the constitutional position of the country’s constituent peoples.
She stressed that the future of BiH should be shaped through dialogue among its constituent peoples, with respect for their constitutionally guaranteed rights.
Bećirović’s speech represents his personal political position
Cvijanović also commented on the address delivered by Bosniak member of the Presidency of BiH Denis Bećirović.
She emphasized that his remarks had not been agreed upon within the Presidency of BiH and therefore could not be presented as a common position of the institution.
“As for the address by Bosniak member of the Presidency Denis Bećirović, his speech was not agreed upon within the Presidency of BiH and therefore represents exclusively his personal political position,” Cvijanović concluded.
