Milorad Dodik has condemned what he described as growing anti-Serb hostility in Sarajevo following an incident in which the tires of a vehicle bearing Serbian registration plates were punctured.
“Even cars with Serbian license plates are no longer safe in Sarajevo. How, then, can Serbs expect to be safe?” Dodik asked.
In a post on X, Dodik argued that the incident reflected a broader atmosphere of hostility toward Serbs.
“Sarajevo is sinking into ever deeper darkness. The result of the anti-Serb hysteria that has intensified in recent weeks is not merely punctured tires, but a clear message to the people of Serbia and all Serbs that they are not welcome,” he wrote.
Dodik also made a series of historical accusations, claiming that Serbs had faced persecution in the region for centuries.
“For four centuries, they have mistreated Serbs in these territories. In both the First and Second World Wars, they sided with those who wanted to eradicate the Serb people,” Dodik stated.
Referring to the Second World War, he accused the Bosnian Muslim Handžar Division of participating in campaigns against Serbs alongside other SS formations.
He further criticized what he described as attempts to present Bosniaks as the sole victims of the 1990s war in BiH.
“Today, they are trying to elevate themselves to the status of victims. Bosniaks, Muslims, cannot accept that they were not the only ones who suffered during the civil war. Serbs and others suffered as well,” Dodik said.
“They cannot accept that they were not the only ones who had victims, or that responsibility for crimes does not lie exclusively with members of the Serb people, but also with individuals from among the Bosniaks,” he added.
Dodik went on to accuse political forces in Sarajevo of seeking to eliminate the Serb presence not only in the city but throughout BiH.
“They have cleansed Sarajevo of Serbs, and they would like to do the same throughout BiH,” he claimed.
“As long as Republika Srpska exists, that dream will never come true. And Republika Srpska was created to last forever,” Dodik concluded.
His remarks followed an incident in Sarajevo’s Breka neighborhood, where an unidentified individual punctured two tires on a car with Belgrade registration plates during the night between Sunday and Monday.
The motive behind the incident has not been established.
