Zvornik Mayor Bojan Ivanović has called on residents to remain calm following the discovery of anti-Serb graffiti on the historic Zvornik Fortress, warning that the incident has unnecessarily heightened tensions in the city.
Speaking on RTRS’s morning programme, Ivanović said the vandalism had disrupted the atmosphere in a community that has long been regarded as an example of coexistence and post-war reconciliation.
The graffiti, which included the wartime flag of the former Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ARBiH), was discovered on the medieval fortress known as Đurđev Grad.
Police have identified the suspected perpetrators as two French citizens born in Zvornik, while the Bijeljina District Prosecutor’s Office is conducting the investigation and will determine whether criminal charges will be filed.
“The incident has raised tensions, but this is something we do not need at this moment. Zvornik has been an example of return and coexistence, yet incidents like this always create unnecessary tensions. I call on all citizens not to fall for any provocations,” Ivanović said.
He stressed that the situation remains fully under control and thanked residents for responding calmly.
“The overwhelming majority of our citizens have remained composed, and the situation is completely under control,” Ivanović added.
