Banja Luka is a city where urban life can quickly give way to forests, walking trails and the tranquility of nature. This is precisely the side of the city that Spanish travel writer and communicator Clara Estrems, known for her “Las sandalias de Ulises” project, recently presented to her followers.
This time, Estrems focused on the forests and hiking trails leading toward Banj Brdo and the Monument to the Fallen Krajina Soldiers.
“Walking through the forests on the hill above Banja Luka is a wonderful way to discover a different side of the city — even more peaceful, surrounded by trees, trails and nature,” Estrems said.
She particularly highlighted the opportunities for hiking, the fresh air and the views that emerge between the trees during the climb.
A city with a high quality of life
One of her observations stands out when Banja Luka is viewed through the eyes of a foreign traveler.
“Banja Luka is a very peaceful and pleasant city, with a high quality of life,” Estrems said.
Visitors can reach the top of Banj Brdo and the monument either by following the paved road or taking one of the trails through the forest. Estrems invited her followers to consider which route they would choose.
Her stay in Banja Luka was not limited to exploring the city’s natural surroundings. The Spanish travel writer had previously introduced the city to viewers of À Punt television, speaking about life in Banja Luka, its history and some of its best-known landmarks, including Kastel Fortress, the Ferhadija Mosque, the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, Gospodska Street and the Vrbas River.
Her portrayal of Banja Luka brings together many of the features that make the city attractive to visitors — its history and architecture, the Vrbas and lively city streets, as well as the fact that forests, hiking trails and scenic viewpoints are only a short distance from the city center.
