The Bosniak political elite has never accepted Republika Srpska, Republika Srpska President Siniša Karan said during an appearance on RTRS’s Pečat program.
Karan said initiatives by Bosniak political representatives to suspend the Agreement on Special Parallel Relations between Republika Srpska and Serbia have continued for years, but argued that such efforts would not succeed.
“The Declaration of the Serb People is a response to those attacks, because they have been going on for 35 years. The Bosniak elite has never, neither then nor now, accepted Republika Srpska and the Serb people in the way prescribed by the Constitution. Republika Srpska emerged as a response to such attacks,” Karan said.
He stressed that this was precisely why the right to establish special parallel relations was included in Annex 4 of the Dayton Peace Agreement.
“That was not accidental. Those who drafted the Constitution and the Dayton Agreement knew that the fabric of one people had been divided,” Karan said.
He added that significant efforts are being made to preserve what he described as the unity and shared identity of the Serb people.
“In the field of education, we distributed catalogs to our children presenting our most distinguished figures from various fields so that they can properly learn about our history. No one can abolish the special parallel relations,” Karan said.
“Those who have been trying to do that since 1991 will, of course, not succeed, and our response will be even stronger, demonstrating that the Serb people share one identity,” he added.
