The Banja Luka City Administration has once again announced several infrastructure and restoration projects, including the renovation of the artillery barracks at Kastel Fortress, construction of a new section of the Vrbas River promenade, reconstruction of the City Bridge and installation of lighting on city bridges.
According to the City Administration, plans for 2027 include connecting the Riva promenade with the walkway leading toward Vrućica by constructing a new section beneath the City Bridge.
The project is expected to create several kilometers of uninterrupted pedestrian paths along the Vrbas River.
Reconstruction of the City Bridge announced
The City Administration has also announced plans to reconstruct and renovate the City Bridge.
However, no details have been provided regarding the scope of the planned work, its estimated cost or the expected start date.
Another project involves installing lighting on all city bridges, with particular emphasis on the Venice Bridge and Rebrovac Bridge.
The administration has not specified a timetable or estimated budget for these improvements.
Artillery barracks at Kastel Fortress to be restored
One of the announced projects focuses on the artillery barracks within the historic Kastel Fortress complex.
According to city officials, the objective is to restore this part of the fortress and protect it from further deterioration.
However, the announcement did not include a detailed restoration plan, estimated project costs, financing arrangements or a deadline for completing the work.
Project timelines and funding remain uncertain
Although the City Administration has reiterated its commitment to these infrastructure and heritage preservation projects, several important questions remain unanswered.
It is still unclear when the announced projects will move from the planning stage to implementation, how much funding will be allocated or in what order the work will be carried out.
For now, the proposed improvements to the Vrbas promenade, city bridges and Kastel Fortress remain announced plans without confirmed implementation schedules.
