Banja Luka artist Maja Mano continues to build her presence on the regional music scene with the release of her new single, Sloboda (Freedom), a powerful synth-pop track exploring the courage to take control of one’s life, confront personal fears and choose freedom regardless of the cost.
Following her previous singles Ako trebaš nekoga, Kiselina and Bila je ljubav, Mano opens a new chapter in her artistic journey, introducing a more mature musical expression, a striking vocal performance and a cinematic music video.
Sloboda explores the moment when people stop living according to others’ expectations, confront their deepest fears and make difficult but necessary decisions.
The song tells a story of breaking free from familiar patterns, abandoning false security and finding the strength to finally choose oneself.
“Freedom is the moment when you choose yourself, regardless of the cost. It is that turning point when you decide to face the truth, no matter how painful it may be,” Mano explains.
“Most often, it is our own fears that keep us imprisoned, and this song is an invitation to break those chains and start living in a way that feels right to us,” she adds.
A powerful new sound and a more mature artistic expression
Unlike the gentle and nostalgic atmosphere of her previous single Bila je ljubav, the new release introduces greater dramatic intensity, powerful emotions and richly produced synth-pop arrangements.
The song’s dynamic range allows Mano to showcase a different side of her voice, drawing on her experience, artistic maturity and expressive abilities.
The lyrics and music were written by Hristina Vuković, while the arrangement and production were handled by Andrija Gavrilović.
Both are longtime collaborators who continue to work with Mano in shaping the distinctive musical identity of her forthcoming album.
A cinematic story of liberation
The accompanying music video adds another dimension to the song, allowing Mano to demonstrate her acting abilities alongside her musical talent.
The video was directed by Zoran Rašić, Aleksandar Stevanović and Nevena Ivanović, while Mano herself participated in developing the visual concept and artistic direction.
Filming presented several unusual challenges, including scenes shot in an ice-cold swimming pool in the middle of the night.
Despite the demanding conditions, the production team worked together to bring Mano’s original vision to life.
“Acting is my second great love, and I wanted to combine my two passions through this music video,” Mano says.
“From the very beginning, I imagined a short cinematic story in which I would also have a meaningful acting role. It was demanding, but that approach gave the song exactly the visual dimension I wanted,” she explains.
A new chapter in her regional music career
Sloboda is Mano’s fourth single, gradually revealing the sound and atmosphere of the album she is currently developing.
Each of her previous releases has explored a different emotional landscape, while the new song represents what the artist describes as a more mature stage in her creative development.
Positive reactions from audiences and media outlets across BiH and the wider region have provided additional motivation for her continued work.
In the coming months, Mano plans to release more music, perform live with her band and introduce new surprises as she moves closer to completing her album.
Above all, the central message of Sloboda remains clear: vulnerability is not weakness, and sometimes the greatest strength lies in deciding to move forward.
“I want people to feel incredible strength after listening to this song, to know that they are capable of anything and that liberation is the greatest gift they can give themselves,” Mano concludes.
The new single Sloboda is available on all major streaming platforms, accompanied by its official music video on Maja Mano’s YouTube channel.
