Committee for the protection of Serb rights in the Federation: You did not preserve, you destroyed

The Committee for the Protection of the Rights of Serbs in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina stated that Bosniak Muslim leaders — 33 of them who signed a declaration claiming that their army preserved “key religious and cultural sites of other communities” — should explain specific cases they cite as examples.

The Committee questioned how the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina preserved the Serbian Orthodox Church in Budimlić Japra (now in the municipality of Krupa na Uni), stating that the church was burned in 1995 when the Fifth Corps entered the area. Citing the book Spiritual Genocide, published in 1997 by the Museum of the Serbian Orthodox Church, they added that the parish house next to the church was also set on fire.

They further asked how a Serbian Orthodox chapel in Karaula near Kakanj was “preserved,” claiming that the bell tower was destroyed and the chapel burned.

The Committee also referenced a chapel in the suburban settlement of Mutnica near Zenica, stating it was first burned and then completely demolished.

According to the Committee, the March 18 statement by Bosniak leaders claimed that areas under their army’s control preserved key religious and cultural sites of other peoples. They argued that, for Serbs, the most important sites are churches, chapels, and cemeteries.

They concluded that answers regarding wartime actions can be found in Spiritual Genocide, and announced plans to organize an exhibition presenting these cases internationally.
