Minić congratulates Republic Day and Veterans’ Day

Prime Minister of Republika Srpska Savo Minić congratulated the citizens of Republika Srpska on Republic Day and Veterans’ Day of the Defensive-Patriotic War.

“On this great day, we are immeasurably proud of all those who contributed so that today we have our own Republika Srpska and can, in peace and freedom, mark the day of its founding. May this day be an opportunity for each of us to remember our loved ones—brothers, sisters, sons, friends, and relatives—who built the foundations of Republika Srpska with what was most sacred: their lives,” Minić said.

He emphasized that, guided by this, Republika Srpska is this year jointly marking Republic Day and Veterans’ Day of the Defensive-Patriotic War.

“Had it not been for them, there would be no us. We owe them for standing by their people in those difficult times, when it seemed that everything had conspired against us, and for defending our right to live on our ancestral hearths,” Minić said.

Even from today’s distance—34 years later—Minić noted, there is a shared conviction that the creation of Republika Srpska amid the whirl of historical upheavals—marked by the breakup of the former state and the announced violation of the will of the Serb people in Bosnia and Herzegovina—was the only possible path for the Serb people.

“Just as it is clear today, so many years later, that Republika Srpska remains the sole lasting guarantee of the protection of Serb rights within Bosnia and Herzegovina,” he added.

Minić said that in the time behind us, Republika Srpska has gone through an exceptionally difficult and turbulent path—from war, in which it fought for survival, through the Dayton compromise that defined today’s Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska, to the almost daily attempts to undermine our constitutional and legal position, which we continue to witness.

“Our sacred duty is to resist this and to persistently continue building our society along the path of peace, prosperity, and coexistence with other peoples, so that Republika Srpska becomes better and more successful with each passing day, to the satisfaction of all who live in it,” the congratulatory message from the Prime Minister of Republika Srpska concluded.
