Former U.S. federal prosecutor Martin De Luca commented on the lifting of American sanctions against four individuals from Republika Srpska, calling it a major step toward fairness and stability in the Balkans.
“The United States has just lifted sanctions for four leaders from Republika Srpska in Bosnia, making an important move toward justice and genuine stability in the Balkans. For years, unelected foreign officials have waged ‘lawfare’ to marginalize popular leaders such as President Milorad Dodik, using courts as weapons to deprive the people of their democratically elected representatives. They sought to reward those who could ‘disqualify candidates’ most likely to win. This decision begins to restore balance and democratic legitimacy,” De Luca wrote on X.
He added that U.S. President Donald Trump understands that peace stems from sovereignty and consent, not from endless foreign interference.
