The literary and cultural manifestation “Ćopić’s Childhood Paths” was held in Hašani, the birthplace of renowned writer Branko Ćopić.

A newly built children’s theater named “Jež’s Home” was officially opened during the event. Students and writers read selected verses of one of the most beloved authors in Yugoslav and Serbian literature.

The award for the best literary work on the theme “Jež’s Home” went to Iva Pančić, a student of Branko Ćopić Elementary School in Banja Luka.

This year, the Branko Ćopić Foundation presented its “Blagodarje” Award to the “Branko Ćopić” Public Library from Velika Popina in Gračac, Croatia.

The Foundation and the Municipality of Krupa na Uni are jointly implementing the project “The Garden of Marshmallow Colors – Hašani.”

The event began with the laying of a wreath at the writer’s bust located in front of the Branko Ćopić Memorial School.

Branko Ćopić was born on January 1, 1915, in Hašani. He received his first literary award in 1938 from the Academy of Seven Arts for a short story, followed by the Rakić Award in 1939 and the Royal Serbian Academy Award in 1940.

His anthological short story collection “The Garden of Marshmallow Colors” won the Njegoš Award in 1972, while his novel “Don’t Grieve, Bronze Guard” earned him the NIN Award in 1958. He became a member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SANU) in 1968.

Branko Ćopić tragically took his own life on March 26, 1984, jumping from a bridge over the Sava River in Belgrade.
