Republika Srpska today has more friends on the global political stage than ever before, which is especially important with the new U.S. administration—something that was not the case in the past. This was emphasized by President Milorad Dodik, who also underlined that Republika Srpska continues its economic development, despite all attempts at obstruction coming both from political Sarajevo and actors in the international community.
“Just as we were forced to defend Republika Srpska with weapons thirty years ago, today we do so through political action,” said President Dodik, expressing confidence that the leadership of Srpska will succeed in that mission. “Republika Srpska is a stable and unquestionable entity. The Serb people know that without Republika Srpska, there would be no freedom,” he stated.
“Republika Srpska today stands as the guardian of the Serb people’s freedom. It is stable, and no propaganda tricks from the opposition—especially from Sarajevo—can do anything to harm it,” Dodik declared.
He stressed that Republika Srpska is protecting the Dayton Agreement from those who seek to dismantle it in order to destroy Srpska. However, he added, the current global political circumstances are more favorable than ever for Republika Srpska. “This is most visible in the new U.S. administration,” said Dodik, adding that Srpska now has friends who will help ensure its positions in defense of the Dayton structure of Bosnia and Herzegovina are heard even in the United States. One of them, he noted, is Rod Blagojevich, who recently visited Srpska.
“Today, Republika Srpska has a strong number of strong friends—people we never had before. They were always somewhere around but never openly said anything positive about us. Today, they speak up without hesitation. We are proud of our friendship with the Russian Federation, with Hungary. And do we even need to mention Serbia? Isn’t it enough that we now have strong allies, even in the new U.S. administration?” Dodik emphasized.
He pointed out that economic indicators, numerous projects, and foreign investments also show that Republika Srpska has never been in a better position. “Despite obstructions from political Sarajevo and even Brussels, we continue to grow,” Dodik said.
“Republika Srpska now has an average salary of 750 euros, or 1,500 BAM. That used to be unimaginable. I know that this is not enough for the people, but what satisfies me is that we are constantly growing and progressing. Our economy is growing, investments are increasing. We plan to complete the highway from Banja Luka to Belgrade,” Dodik added.
And that is just one of the projects Srpska will successfully realize. Dodik also stated that he does not believe the European Union’s narratives about a unitary and centralized Bosnia and Herzegovina. “The only thing the Serb people need is a strong Republika Srpska,” he concluded.
