The President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, commented on the statement by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, emphasizing that Srpska cannot abandon its positions, regardless of who is on the other side.
“When the U.S. Secretary of State speaks, it is always serious, and I take it as such. However, in what he said, I see remnants of the Biden administration. We know that Trump’s people have not yet taken over all key positions. I am glad that Rubio is aware of us, even if he writes negatively. He made a number of mistakes. The Secretary of State does not have the time, and I understand that, to look into all the details. Concerns about Bosnia and Herzegovina’s position are something we have heard before from the Biden administration,” Dodik stated.
Dodik reiterated Trump’s stance that the U.S. will not interfere in the internal affairs of other states and will abandon the concept of nation-building in foreign countries.
“This could be part of lobbying efforts that we recognize as remnants of the Biden administration. When he says he is concerned about BiH’s future, we are concerned as well—because it is being undermined by anti-Dayton and anti-international legal actions. He also failed to notice that Schmidt was not appointed through the UN. They have adopted a narrative that he was appointed by the UN, despite the fact that he was not appointed in accordance with proper procedures,” Dodik explained.
He firmly stated that Srpska will not back down from its policies.
“He is wrong in asserting otherwise. He could be a deity, not just the U.S. Secretary of State, and it would not change our stance. It would be good for them to read about what is actually happening here instead of simply adopting false narratives that were constructed within the Biden administration,” Dodik said.
Dodik added that he still considers Rubio a friend of all in BiH but believes he has been misled by pro-Muslim lobbyists who orchestrated such statements.
“We in Srpska have seen moments like this before. We have faced threats and had to endure three years of an ambassador who did nothing but harm to Srpska. We cannot abandon our goals and policies, no matter who is on the other side. I urge everyone who wishes to take a stance on the situation here to also listen to the other side. They cannot make decisions about us—they should be making decisions with us,” Dodik concluded.
