Banjac: Mlječanica becoming a regional medical center and driver of development

Darko Banjac announced that Republika Srpska will invest five million KM through the 2026 public investment program for the purchase of state-of-the-art medical equipment for the Special Hospital for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation “Mlječanica.”

According to Banjac, the hospital will additionally invest its own funds in the construction of a new diagnostic center that is expected to become one of the most advanced in the region.

“Mlječanica already has a highly developed diagnostic center equipped with the latest-generation devices. What we still need are an MRI scanner and a mammography unit,” Banjac said.

He revealed that the hospital plans to purchase a top-tier mammography system worth 800,000 KM from its own funds, as well as a next-generation helium-free MRI machine, currently found only once in Europe, with another expected at the Oncology Institute in Belgrade.

Banjac stated that Mlječanica aims to become one of only three hospitals equipped with such technology, completing what he described as the most modern diagnostic center in the region.

The hospital will also build a new facility for diagnostic services, enabling patients to undergo X-ray, CT, EMG, mammography and MRI examinations in one place.

He emphasized that the development of the spa-tourism and diagnostic complex is of major importance for Kozarska Dubica and the wider regional economy.

“Mlječanica already has a regional impact, with patients arriving from across Republika Srpska, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Germany and Austria,” Banjac noted.

Future plans include the construction of a pavilion hotel with 120 high-category beds worth 12 million KM, as well as a new sports and recreation complex featuring a FIFA-standard football stadium, tennis courts and multifunctional sports fields.

Today, Mlječanica employs 156 workers, cooperates with 11 local companies and operates without tax or financial debt, further strengthening its role as a key economic and healthcare hub in the region.
