Republika Srpska wants to discuss its future directly with those making decisions in Washington rather than wait for others to decide on its behalf. This is the main objective of President Milorad Dodik’s latest visit to the United States, where he will participate in a conference organized within the Republican MAGA movement. The message is clear: high-level political contacts are continuing.
Dodik has announced that he will meet with numerous members of the US Congress, including congressmen and senators, and hold discussions with influential figures involved in major decision-making processes in the United States.
Intensive contacts with the Trump administration have already produced results, according to the report.
However, Serb member of the BiH Presidency Željka Cvijanović explained that Republika Srpska’s diplomatic activities involve maintaining communication with representatives of both major American political parties.
Cvijanović: Cooperation extends to both Republicans and Democrats
“There are certain connections that are maintained with people, primarily, I would say, from the conservative political spectrum.
“But I can also tell you that, when it comes to Congress and my cooperation with its members, there are people from both political parties. Definitely,” Cvijanović said.
Asked whether she had also met with Democrats, she confirmed that such contacts were part of her diplomatic activities.
“I have met with Democrats, including during my recent visits and meetings. There were Democrats there, and there will continue to be.
“It is simply a process. Naturally, your primary focus is always on the political structure currently in power. Absolutely,” Cvijanović explained.
Simović: SNSD and the MAGA movement share sovereigntist values
Professor Vlade Simović believes that, from a strictly political perspective, it is natural for the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) to seek partners within the MAGA movement, given their ideological similarities.
“This is very positive for the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats, which has established itself as a party that embraces sovereigntist ideas and follows a political direction similar to that of the MAGA movement.
“It also establishes a personal connection between SNSD President Milorad Dodik and the MAGA movement.
“At the same time, it is beneficial for Republika Srpska that these contacts are being established and strengthened, particularly because Donald Trump is the President of the United States,” Simović said.
Marinković: Relations with Washington could bring strategic investments
Beyond political support, stronger relations with Washington could also create opportunities for concrete business cooperation.
Vladimir Marinković, founder of the Congress of Serbian-American Friendship, believes that the current political moment should be used to launch joint projects.
“This is of strategic importance for Republika Srpska, for protecting the national interests of the Serb people in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and, of course, for the further development of Republika Srpska.
“I am primarily referring to energy security, economic development, new jobs and, naturally, strengthening its geopolitical position.
“These are strategic moves that could determine the future of Republika Srpska,” Marinković stated.
Turning political contacts into concrete agreements
The report emphasizes the importance of translating established political relationships and diplomatic contacts into concrete agreements, investments and long-term support from American partners.
It also argues that expectations among some political figures in Sarajevo that the results of US elections will fundamentally change the situation in BiH overnight are misplaced.
For Republika Srpska, the stated priority remains strengthening direct communication with American decision-makers and using those relationships to advance its political and economic interests.
