Gutić Bjelica: “Serb Days” in Banja Luka promotes cultural heritage of Serbs from Hungary

The cultural event “Serb Days – Month of Serb Culture in Hungary,” which officially began on October 10, 2026, will continue today in Banja Luka with a rich program dedicated to preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of Serbs living in Hungary.

BiH Ambassador to Hungary Biljana Gutić Bjelica emphasized that the event plays an important role in preserving the identity of the Serb community in Hungary while also reflecting the excellent cooperation, friendship and shared Christian traditions of the Serb and Hungarian peoples.

The event has been organized annually since October 2023, following an initiative by Bishop Lukijan of Buda and with his blessing.

“The aim of the event is to preserve and promote the traditions, culture, language and identity of the Serb people in Hungary,” Gutić Bjelica said during an appearance on RTRS’s morning program.

Strengthening historical and cultural ties

Gutić Bjelica noted that Serbs have lived in the territory of present-day Hungary for centuries, making initiatives such as “Serb Days” particularly important for safeguarding their cultural and linguistic heritage.

According to the ambassador, the event connects the past, present and future of the two peoples while further strengthening the close historical ties between Hungary and Republika Srpska.
