Tadić: Public expects adoption of a new Republika Srpska Constitution

Legal expert Ognjen Tadić has stated that the public expects work on drafting a new Constitution of Republika Srpska to continue, following a decision adopted by the National Assembly during its previous term.

According to Tadić, completing this process would mark a new phase in the constitutional and legal development of Republika Srpska.

“The constitutional and legal development of Republika Srpska has strong and healthy roots in the sovereign will of our people,” Tadić told the Srna news agency.

He recalled that, in his view, several attempts had been made to obstruct this development through foreign interventions, unlawful interference and undemocratic pressure.

“During its previous term, the National Assembly adopted a decision to begin consolidating these issues and drafting a new text of the Constitution of Republika Srpska,” Tadić explained.

He emphasized that the public therefore has legitimate expectations that this major undertaking will continue and that new constitutional provisions will be defined to guide Republika Srpska into the next stage of its constitutional development.

Dodik announces plans for new Constitution on January 9

Milorad Dodik has announced plans to proclaim a new Constitution of Republika Srpska on January 9.

According to Dodik, the new constitution will be modern, respect the constitutional status of the constituent peoples and introduce provisions intended to prevent abuses in the functioning of Republika Srpska’s institutions.

Among the proposed changes, Dodik highlighted a provision that would formally designate Banja Luka as the capital of Republika Srpska, while Pale would be recognized as its historic seat.
