The Prime Minister of the Republika Srpska, Savo Minić, said that Prebilovci stand as a symbol of both suffering and resurrection, where, in his words, life triumphed over death and faith prevailed over fear and oblivion.
“August is a difficult month, filled with sorrow for the Serbian people. There are few days, and few places, when we do not remember our suffering. Prebilovci are one of the places that witnessed some of the greatest atrocities—a sacred place of pain and remembrance,” Minić wrote on the social media platform X.
According to Minić, 85 years after the massacre of Serbian civilians, it remains the responsibility of today’s generations to preserve the truth and pass on the memory of the victims, whose only fault, he said, was their name, faith and origin.
The commemoration marking the 85th anniversary of one of the most severe atrocities committed against the Serbian population of Prebilovci and the wider region of Lower Herzegovina during the Second World War began this evening with an evening service at the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Prebilovci.
