The traditional cultural event “Days of Miroslav Čangalović” will be held in Glamoč from August 1 to 4, marking its seventh consecutive year.
The programme will include the promotion of the book “The Covenants of Matica Srpska – A Guide to Serbia’s Oldest Cultural Institution” by Ivan Negrišorac, along with a keynote lecture by Dr. Milan Micić.
The event will conclude with a concert featuring opera arias and solo operatic performances.
All programmes will take place at the Glamoč Cultural Centre.
The event is organized by the Municipality of Glamoč, the Serbian National Theatre in Novi Sad, in cooperation with Matica Srpska and the “Glamočko Kolo” Homeland Association from Novi Sad and Banja Luka.
Miroslav Čangalović, born in Glamoč in 1921, is regarded as one of the greatest figures in the history of Serbian and Yugoslav musical art. He made his operatic debut in 1946 at the National Theatre in Belgrade, performing the role of the Jailer in Puccini’s Tosca.
From 1946 to 1954, he studied singing under renowned opera singer and vocal pedagogue Zdenka Zikova.
During his distinguished career, Čangalović performed more than 90 operatic roles, including Don Quixote in Massenet’s Don Quichotte, Konchak and Galitsky in Borodin’s Prince Igor, Mephistopheles in Gounod’s Faust, Philip II in Verdi’s Don Carlos, Figaro in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, Kochubey in Tchaikovsky’s Mazeppa, and Mitke in Konjović’s Koštana.
His concert career spanned more than four decades, during which he gave approximately 3,000 performances across Yugoslavia and around 160 concerts internationally, appearing in some of the world’s most prestigious concert halls, including those in London, Paris, Tokyo, and Moscow.
Miroslav Čangalović passed away in Belgrade in 1999.
