VK Banja Luka has continued its dominance in water polo in Republika Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina, securing its tenth consecutive national championship title. For an entire decade, the Banja Luka club has been synonymous with success and consistency, reaffirming year after year its status as the most decorated and successful team in domestic water polo.
The latest title was secured even before the end of the season following another impressive performance at a tournament held last weekend in Banja Luka. The team recorded four victories against Borac Banja Luka, Jadran Neum, Torpedo Sarajevo and Invictum Sarajevo, once again demonstrating the quality gap that has defined the club’s dominance on the domestic scene for years.
The final round of the championship will be played next weekend in Trebinje, but it carries no competitive significance for Banja Luka, which has already secured another championship crown. Ten consecutive titles are the result of dedicated work, continuity and the development of generations of players who have consistently set the standard in water polo across Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The club’s success is also reflected in individual achievements. Petar Kojčinović currently leads the league’s scoring chart with more than 30 goals, while Luka Jagodić is the league’s top goalkeeper with over 40 saves. It is no coincidence that both the leading scorer and the best goalkeeper in the championship come from the ranks of the title-winning team.
An additional value of these achievements lies in the fact that VK Banja Luka has successfully represented the city, Republika Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina on the international stage for years. The club regularly competes in the UEFA-style qualifying rounds for the Champions League and in the European Challenger Cup, where it faces renowned teams from across Europe while promoting domestic sport at the highest level.
The championship-winning squad consists of Stefan Milovanović, Stefan Glavić, Mirko Ćurlić, Nikola Ćosić, Stanko Đukić, Stefan Šobić, Milan Kecman, Viktor Glavić, Srđan Stevandić, Petar Kojčinović, Ognjen Čolić, Draško Vujković, Luka Jagodić, Matija Rajić, Milan Čikić and Matija Krupljanin.
Despite a decade of dominance, numerous trophies and notable international appearances, VK Banja Luka still does not receive the level of support that matches its achievements. Nevertheless, that has not prevented the club and its athletes from delivering top results year after year and remaining one of the most successful sports organizations in Republika Srpska, proudly carrying the name of Banja Luka throughout the region and across Europe.
