Željka Cvijanović continued her working visit to the United States. At the invitation of Yechiel Leiter, she also attended a celebration marking the Independence Day of the Israel in Washington, D.C.. On that occasion, she met with Chris Wright and Mike Huckabee.
This visit continues the diplomatic activities of representatives of Republika Srpska, which many describe as historic in efforts to preserve its status and competencies.
Cvijanović began her three-day visit with a meeting in Congress with Randy Fine.
“It was an opportunity to explain the constitutional structure of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the position and views of Republika Srpska regarding current political developments. I expressed support for the approach of President Donald Trump’s administration, according to which domestic institutions and democratically elected representatives should assume full responsibility for all processes in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Cvijanović stated.
That relations with the United States are reaching a historic level is also reflected in the recent recognition awarded to Milorad Dodik for leadership and commitment to national sovereignty and democratic principles.
Mark Vargas, who presented the award, stated in an authored article that the United States must stand with the Serb people of Republika Srpska, adding that ignoring their struggle for sovereignty would be a mistake.
“The Dayton Peace Agreement established two entities with defined autonomy and protections designed to prevent domination by any one faction. Yet for years, global bureaucrats and so-called High Representatives have worked to reduce that autonomy, pushing for greater centralization in Sarajevo. The Serb people and leaders such as Milorad Dodik have resisted, seeking to preserve their language, Orthodox Christian faith, traditions, and right to autonomy,” Vargas emphasized.
Analysts assess this as a positive signal, noting that Republika Srpska has recognized a key geopolitical moment and strengthened ties with major global actors.
Luciano Kaluža stated that it is significant that such positions have been recognized in the United States, including by Vargas, who identified Republika Srpska’s policy as consistent and resilient.
Aleksandar Pavić added that current developments show a clearer direction for Serb diplomacy, noting that geopolitical circumstances are shifting.
During her stay, Cvijanović also discussed economic development with Justin Siberell from Bechtel, which has expressed interest in infrastructure projects in Republika Srpska.
She also attended the Independence Day celebration of Israel in Washington, where she held additional meetings with Israeli and United States officials.
