Sajić: Republika Srpska an active actor in international relations

International relations expert Nina Sajić stated that Republika Srpska, despite strong pressures, has become an active actor influencing processes in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the wider region. She emphasized that the strengthening of its international position is also reflected in the current visit of Milorad Dodik to the United States, where he received recognition from Judson University.

Sajić noted that Republika Srpska has significantly improved its international standing over the past year.

  • We have not yet fully consolidated that international position, but a great deal has truly changed. If we look back a year or more, Republika Srpska was in a rather unfavorable international environment – she said in a Srna podcast.

She recalled that Republika Srpska’s position had been under constant pressure, including announcements that its internal autonomy could be undermined.

  • Over the past year, the leadership of Republika Srpska and all those representing it, both domestically and internationally, have managed to shift that position in a positive direction. Republika Srpska is no longer merely something being discussed, but a real actor influencing events and processes, both its own and those of BiH and the surrounding region – Sajić stressed.

She added that Bosniak politicians should redirect the energy they spend on opposing Republika Srpska toward addressing numerous issues within the Federation of BiH.

Sajić also stated that the recent visit of Donald Trump Jr. to Banja Luka should not be viewed negatively or minimized.

  • It was the number one media story in the region, and Republika Srpska was presented in a positive context, as a place where serious economic and geopolitical discussions can take place. The fact that Donald Trump Jr. does not formally hold office does not mean he is not an influential figure in the United States – she said.

She added that the same perspective applies to Dodik’s current visit to the United States, during which he received recognition from Judson University.

  • There were numerous attempts to boycott or prevent the award ceremony, so it can be said that the energy invested in obstructing Republika Srpska would certainly be more productive if directed toward positive matters, such as attracting investments in the Federation of BiH, resolving issues between Bosniaks and Croats, the Election Law, and other topics – she concluded.
