In the multi-million-strong Chinese city of Xuzhou, on March 3, 2025, a formal signing ceremony for the twinning agreement between the municipality of Brod from Republika Srpska and the city of Pizhou in China’s Jiangsu Province was held, with the mediation of the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the People’s Republic of China.
The agreement was signed by Mr. Xia Yufeng, mayor of Pizhou, and Mr. Milan Zečević, mayor of Brod, in the presence of H.E. Siniša Berjan, ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the People’s Republic of China, who played a key role in realizing this important agreement.
The signing was also witnessed by Mr. Song Lewei, regional secretary of the Communist Party of China—the highest-ranking local official—along with numerous other distinguished representatives of the city and region.
The twinning agreement is based on the principles of mutual understanding and friendship, aiming to develop and strengthen cooperation between the two local communities in the fields of industry, agriculture, education, sports, culture, and tourism. Particular emphasis has been placed on the economy, investments, and trade exchange.
During the official meeting with representatives of the cities of Pizhou and Xuzhou, discussions were held on the next steps for future cooperation, as well as on a reciprocal visit by representatives of the twinned city. Gifts symbolizing the cultural and historical heritage of Republika Srpska and China were exchanged, reaffirming the exceptional partnership relations.
Pizhou, with a population of two million and an area of 2,100 square kilometers, is one of China’s leading industrial centers, particularly known for its developed industries such as renewable resource recycling, semiconductor production, eco-friendly furniture manufacturing, and healthy food production. At the same time, Pizhou is also recognized as a significant tourist destination, boasting natural attractions that attract numerous visitors.
Mayor Zečević, accompanied by ambassador Berjan and local officials, visited some of Pizhou’s leading factories, primarily those engaged in the production of electric vehicles, eco-friendly furniture, and engines for heavy machinery.
During the visit, mayor Zečević presented the economic potential of the municipality of Brod, including investment opportunities, which generated significant interest among the hosts. It was confirmed that data exchange and market research would be intensified in the coming period to identify suitable investors from Jiangsu Province.
This significant step in the development of international cooperation represents a major success for the municipality of Brod and opens new opportunities for future economic and social development.
