Košarac – Haggag: Focus on strengthening economic cooperation

The Deputy Chair of the Council of Ministers, Staša Košarac, and the newly appointed Egyptian Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Walid Haggag, noted during a meeting in Sarajevo today that there is ample room for cooperation in the fields of tourism, energy, agriculture, and the metal industry, as both sides have expressed mutual interest.

The discussion focused on current political topics, strengthening bilateral economic cooperation, and improving investment opportunities, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations in the Council of Ministers.

Košarac, who serves as the Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, and Ambassador Haggag jointly agreed on the importance of signing a memorandum of understanding in the field of tourism as soon as possible, noting that all necessary procedures for its adoption have been completed.

Košarac invited relevant Egyptian ministers, businesspeople, and representatives of Egypt’s chambers of commerce to participate in the Jahorina Economic Forum in April next year and to attend the upcoming energy summits in Republika Srpska—the Energy Summit in Trebinje and the Balkan Solar Summit in Banja Luka.

Addressing the current political situation, Košarac emphasized that Republika Srpska insists that all solutions in BiH be reached through agreements between the two entities and the three constituent peoples, without international interventionism.

He further stressed that BiH has a future only if it adheres to the Dayton Peace Agreement and the Constitution of BiH, which established the country as composed of two entities and three constituent peoples.

Košarac expressed strong opposition to Egypt’s voting stance on the Srebrenica resolution in the UN General Assembly, calling the document scandalous and a falsification of historical events.

He recalled that Bosniak Presidency member Denis Bećirović and BiH’s Ambassador to the UN, Zlatko Lagumdžija, unilaterally initiated steps to submit the Srebrenica resolution for adoption in the UN General Assembly without the consent of the BiH Presidency or any other BiH-level institution.

During the meeting, Košarac extended his best wishes to Ambassador Haggag for success in his diplomatic mission in BiH.
