The Women’s and Mixed Choir of SPD “Jedinstvo” from Banja Luka achieved outstanding success at this year’s choir festival in Bratislava, winning three golden diplomas, first places, and a special award for the winner in the folklore music category.
From June 13 to 16, the Banja Luka choir participated in the International Choral Competition in Bratislava, competing in three categories (Spiritual and Folklore Music for Mixed Choirs and Women’s Choirs) and performing programs featuring works by Stevan Mokranjac, Marko Tajčević, Vladimir Milosavljević, Nemanja Savić, Ernani Aguiar, Romuald Twardowski, and others.
The competition featured several highly acclaimed choirs from Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Republika Srpska, Croatia, and more.
In addition to their competitive performances, the choirs also held several gala concerts in the concert venues of Bratislava, where they won the audience’s sympathy and received exceptionally positive, affirmative reviews from the listeners, members, and conductors of other choirs.
At these concerts, “Jedinstvo” performed, besides the pieces included in the competition program, the composition “Aka si mi krasna” by the famous Slovak composer Eugen Suchoň, as well as several pieces by Serb composers.
On their return from Slovakia, the SPD “Jedinstvo” choirs visited Vienna, where they explored several significant locations – Schönbrunn and Belvedere Palaces, the Vienna State Opera, the City Hall, and the central part of Vienna. At St. Stephen’s Cathedral, they performed Stevan Mokranjac’s “Tebe pojem” for the visitors.
As soloists at the mentioned concerts, both gala and competitive, sopranos Ana and Jana Jurić, Anja Lukić, and bass Darko Manić performed.
The Women’s and Mixed Choir of SPD “Jedinstvo” was conducted by Nemanja Savić, who has been the conductor of these choirs since their revival in 1992.
