The inappropriate statement by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina that “Serbia deserves contempt” and that they will “seek compensation and revision of the judgment” reveals the true intention behind the resolution.

This was stated by the Chargé d’Affaires and one of Serbia’s representatives to the UN, Saša Mart, during the UN Security Council session.

“Unfortunately, the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina is far from stable. Serbia attaches great importance to fostering good neighborly relations, which is our permanent priority. Bosnia and Herzegovina is our natural and close partner. Therefore, we attach great importance to the stability and prosperity of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Mart said, as reported by N1.

He emphasized that Serbia respects the Dayton Agreement and supports Bosnia and Herzegovina as a single state with two entities and three constituent peoples.

“Serbia opposes solutions imposed without consensus. You all know that several UN member states have submitted a draft resolution on Srebrenica. Unfortunately, the draft was submitted without prior dialogue and necessary agreement, contrary to the Dayton Agreement and the law. This initiative was undertaken by individuals, it is illegal, without a decision from the Presidency, and such unilateral moves do not contribute to the reconciliation process in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Mart stated.

He assessed that such a resolution requires “consensus within Bosnia and Herzegovina.” He also criticized the Bosnian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Elmedin Konaković, before the Security Council, concluding that he had revealed “the true purpose of the resolution.”

“The inappropriate statement that ‘Serbia deserves contempt’ and that they will ‘seek compensation and revision of the judgment’ reveals the true intention behind the resolution. This does not contribute to stability in the region. The recent letter from Ambassador Lagumdžija sent to all UN members is an illustrative example,” Mart said.

He concluded that dialogue is the only way to solutions and that we must talk even when we disagree.

“How will reconciliation be achieved without the Serbs? Only an agreement between Bosniaks, Serbs, and Croats can contribute to lasting peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Mart emphasized.

At the end of his address, he said that Serbia has condemned the crime in Srebrenica and that two presidents have paid tribute to the victims in Potočari.

“We strongly condemn all crimes committed in Bosnia and Herzegovina and condemn the heinous crime in Srebrenica against the Bosniak population. We cannot bring back the victims of the war, but we can condemn all crimes and bring the perpetrators of these acts to justice,” Mart concluded.
