The monograph Pančić’s Spruce, written by distinguished professor Milan Mataruga and published by the Faculty of Forestry at the University of Banja Luka, has become the most sought-after book at the Republika Srpska stand during the 69th International Belgrade Book Fair.
The publisher of the monograph was also awarded the traditional Charter of Success, recognizing the significance and quality of the publication.
A comprehensive study of a rare and endangered species
The monograph provides a detailed overview of Pančić’s spruce, a rare and endangered endemic tree species and one of the most important symbols of the natural heritage of Serbia and Republika Srpska.
The publication combines scientific research with accessible explanations, making it valuable not only to forestry experts and researchers but also to the wider public.
Marina Nonić, a professor at the Faculty of Forestry in Belgrade, emphasized the book’s educational importance.
“The monograph has a scientific character, which I must emphasize, but it has been written in a way that makes it accessible to other readers, the general public and everyone who wishes to learn more about this exceptionally important species and the need for its conservation,” Nonić stated.
A natural symbol connecting Republika Srpska and Serbia
Mlađen Cicović, Head of the Republika Srpska Representative Office in Serbia, highlighted the symbolic importance of the publication.
He explained that the monograph particularly reminded him of this year’s slogan, “To Exist, to Carry an Identity.”
“Nature has ensured that this unique endemic species symbolically connects Republika Srpska and Serbia. The monograph contains 400 pages and is exceptionally well produced,” Cicović said.
The publication’s popularity at the Belgrade Book Fair highlights public interest in the natural heritage shared by Republika Srpska and Serbia, as well as the importance of scientific research and conservation efforts aimed at protecting endangered species.
