The Republika Srpska National Theatre has won two prestigious awards at the 35th Zoran Radmilović Days Festival. Its production of Martin’s Share received the Krstomir Milovanović Award for Visual Identity, while Nikolina Friganović was named Best Actress of the Festival for her portrayal of Milka in the same play.
Explaining its decision to present the award for visual identity, the professional jury praised the production’s artistic and technical achievements.
“The set design by Dragana Purković Macan, costumes by Ivana Ristić and lighting design by Nikola Zavišić contributed effectively, sophisticatedly and functionally to the overall atmosphere of this moving, epic dramatic chronicle presented in an outstanding production by the Banja Luka theatre. Together, they achieved stylistic unity with the director’s and dramaturgical vision,” the jury stated.
Nikolina Friganović named Best Actress of the Festival
Nikolina Friganović, who had previously received the Zoran’s Moustache award for the best performance of the evening, also won the Festival’s top acting award for her portrayal of Milka.
The jury praised her emotionally powerful yet restrained performance.
“Through precise, intelligent, understated and, above all, deeply compelling acting, Nikolina Friganović captured the entire tragic fate of a family and a people through the character of Milka, without ever resorting to sentimentality or exaggerated expression,” the jury explained.
“Set against a complex social and historical period whose consequences we still feel deeply today, her portrayal of Milka takes on the qualities of a heroine whose inevitable fate leads to a cathartic confrontation with our recent past,” the jury added.
