The youngest residents of Banja Luka have demonstrated that making a difference does not depend on age. Children from Ciciban Kindergarten and pupils from primary schools in the Ada and Česma neighborhoods have donated food and essential supplies to the “Meal of Love” public kitchen, reminding the community of the importance of compassion, solidarity and helping those in need.
Their generous contributions brought joy to the beneficiaries of the public kitchen operated by the humanitarian association Mozaik prijateljstva (Mosaic of Friendship), while highlighting the importance of teaching children empathy and social responsibility from an early age.
Kindergarten children prepare homemade food for those in need
One particularly touching donation came from children attending Ciciban Kindergarten, who prepared homemade preserved vegetables and other traditional winter food supplies with their own hands.
Together with additional groceries, the children donated their homemade products to Mozaik prijateljstva.
The association expressed heartfelt gratitude for the contribution, emphasizing that kindness has no age limit.
“We are happiest when we receive a donation from our future, our youngest fellow citizens, who already possess so much empathy at such a young age,” representatives of the association stated.
They also thanked the kindergarten teachers and parents for encouraging children to develop compassion and a sense of responsibility toward others.
“As long as we have you, we do not need to worry about the future,” the association added.
Two small schools, one big heart
Pupils from primary schools in Banja Luka’s Ada and Česma neighborhoods also demonstrated their generosity by joining a campaign to collect food and hygiene products for the public kitchen.
Despite attending two relatively small schools, the children managed to gather enough supplies to fill an entire delivery vehicle.
Mozaik prijateljstva praised their efforts, noting that such contributions are particularly valuable at a time when increasing numbers of citizens are experiencing financial difficulties.
“Fully aware of the difficult economic situation affecting all of us, we are grateful to you, children, beyond words,” the association said.
Public kitchen faces growing demand and declining supplies
Behind these inspiring examples of children’s generosity lies a serious challenge facing the Meal of Love public kitchen.
According to representatives of Mozaik prijateljstva, food supplies are steadily decreasing while the number of people relying on the kitchen for daily meals continues to rise.
“In our public kitchen, food supplies are decreasing day by day, while, unfortunately, the number of beneficiaries is growing every day. Without people like you, every hot meal we provide would be at risk,” the association warned.
The organization emphasized that community donations are essential to maintaining its daily operations and ensuring that vulnerable residents continue receiving assistance.
Mozaik prijateljstva serves around 800 meals daily
Led by Miroslav Subašić, Mozaik prijateljstva is one of Banja Luka’s most recognizable humanitarian organizations.
Its primary mission is to support socially vulnerable citizens, elderly and infirm individuals, homeless people and families living in difficult financial circumstances.
The association is particularly known for its Meal of Love public kitchen, which prepares and distributes approximately 800 meals every day.
In addition to providing food, the organization collects clothing, hygiene products and other essential supplies, while also offering assistance to elderly and vulnerable residents.
Its activities depend heavily on the generosity of citizens, volunteers and donors, making every contribution important.
The recent donations from Banja Luka’s youngest residents carry an additional message: a new generation is growing up with an understanding that even small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need help most.
