Republika Srpska and Israel will continue their cooperation in the future, President of Republika Srpska Siniša Karan said after presenting decorations to Israeli Minister for Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism Amichai Chikli and Israeli Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Galit Peleg.
“It is a great honor for me to present decorations to people who have contributed to the good relations between Republika Srpska and Israel. We are developing our relations and we understand each other,” Karan said.
He emphasized that Republika Srpska and Israel have created new opportunities for cooperation.
“We have also achieved concrete results,” Karan added.
Karan recalled the suffering of both the Jewish and Serbian peoples during the Second World War, stating that the Holocaust was committed against the Jewish people and genocide against Serbs.
“And that is documented,” Karan said.
Israeli Minister for Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism Amichai Chikli expressed his gratitude for the support Israel received from Republika Srpska following the October 7 attacks.
“It is a great pleasure to be here with you, among friends. This is our third meeting. We met twice in Israel. It is a great privilege to be with you today. After October 7, I saw the Palace of the Republic illuminated with our flag. You gave us your support at our most difficult moment,” Chikli said.
The award ceremony followed a meeting at the Palace of the Republic.
The meeting was attended by Republika Srpska National Assembly Speaker Nenad Stevandić, Republika Srpska Prime Minister Savo Minić, Milorad Dodik, as well as ministers in the Government of Republika Srpska.
