An exhibition titled Faces Behind the Words: Reading Great Writers Through Color by Archbishop Maksim of Los Angeles and Western America has opened at the Museum of Republika Srpska in Banja Luka.
The exhibition features 60 acrylic portraits of some of the most significant figures in world and Serbian literature.
From Dostoevsky and Camus to Crnjanski, Selimović and Ćopić, the 60 portraits reflect the artist’s personal interpretation of the writers and represent an encounter between literature and painting, offering a new visual perspective on their recognizable faces.
For Bishop Maksim, who is involved in painting alongside his pastoral and academic work, a portrait is not merely a depiction of a person’s face, but also an attempt to capture the character of each writer through the prism of their literary work.
The exhibition is accompanied by a monograph of the same name and was organized under the patronage of the Office of the President of Republika Srpska and the Ministry of Education and Culture of Republika Srpska.
