The 8th International Classical Music Festival, featuring nine concerts at various venues across Trebinje over the coming days, opened with a gala concert at Crkvina.
The Music & More SummerFest was officially opened by Trebinje Mayor Mirko Ćurić, who described it as one of the most important classical music festivals in the region and a cultural event that has become an integral part of the city’s artistic life.
Ćurić emphasized that the festival brings together internationally acclaimed artists and young talents, combining experience with youth, knowledge with inspiration, and demonstrating that music transcends borders while art has the power to unite people of different languages, cultures, and generations.
Festival founder and Artistic Director Tatjana Ranković said the event fosters new friendships and connects people from around the world.
She expressed gratitude to the City Administration of Trebinje, the Eparchy of Zahumlje and Herzegovina and the Littoral, the Trebinje Music School, the Cultural Centre, the Museum of Herzegovina, and all other partners who have supported the festival throughout the years.
The opening concert featured the world premiere of Balkanika, a composition for two cellos and string orchestra written by Ionel Petroi.
The program also included works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Schubert, Antonio Vivaldi, George Frideric Handel, Dmitri Shostakovich, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, and Aaron Copland.
This year’s festival has once again brought together students, professors, and musicians from five continents, including Milica Rajković and Teodora Kovačević, students of the Trebinje Music School.
The festival will continue through Thursday, August 13, with concerts scheduled at the Museum of Herzegovina, the Cultural Centre, Villa Lastva, and the Cathedral of Our Lady, while one concert will also be held at the Forte Mare Fortress in Herceg Novi.
