Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik welcomed an initiative by members of the U.S. Congress to designate February as Serbian-American Heritage Month, describing it as a positive step toward strengthening ties between the Serbian and American peoples.
In a post on X, Dodik said Republika Srpska supports continued efforts to reinforce what he described as a historically proven partnership that remains important for the future.
“Republika Srpska has made an immeasurable contribution to that effort,” Dodik wrote.
He said the historic alliance between Serbs and the United States, forged during some of the most challenging periods of the twentieth century, continues to represent an important foundation for stability in the Balkans and a framework for mutual understanding, cooperation, and peace.
Despite changing circumstances and new challenges, Dodik argued that shared values, trust, and mutual respect continue to underpin the relationship and contribute to regional security and development.
“Every step toward deeper political dialogue, stronger economic ties, and closer cultural cooperation is welcome, as it represents a responsible approach and a guarantee of a more peaceful future for all our peoples,” Dodik said.
The proposal, submitted by five members of the U.S. House of Representatives, calls for February to be officially recognised as Serbian-American Heritage Month, highlighting the importance of recognising and celebrating the achievements, heritage, and cultural contributions of Serbian Americans, as well as their role in strengthening the United States.
If adopted, the designation would provide an annual opportunity for educational, cultural, and public events across the United States dedicated to the history, achievements, and heritage of the Serbian-American community.
