The determination of Republika Srpska has led to a situation in which no one is eager to assume the position of High Representative, National Assembly Speaker Nenad Stevandić told RTRS, commenting on the Peace Implementation Council’s inability to reach agreement on the appointment of a new High Representative.
Stevandić said that Republika Srpska, through its persistence, withstood what he described as attempts to completely undermine its Government, President, and National Assembly.
“Everyone should know that Republika Srpska, through its persistence, endured attempts to completely destroy us, including the Government, the President, and the National Assembly. The National Assembly was the decisive barrier that restored the authority of both the Government and the President of Republika Srpska and prevented them from being effectively forced out while under international pressure,” Stevandić said.
He added that Milorad Dodik remains the central political figure in Republika Srpska because, he said, both the President of Republika Srpska and the Prime Minister come from his political party.
Stevandić also stated that Republika Srpska has achieved what he described as geopolitical successes in Moscow, Washington, Beijing, and in several European countries.
“It is not easy to take that position at a time of a new global geopolitical reset, in which the Serbs have positioned themselves well and have acquired foreign policy tools,” he said.
According to Stevandić, Republika Srpska’s determination will continue to preserve its position.
“We have reached a point where others are talking with us and where our views are also being taken into account,” Stevandić said.
