Bijeljina opens International Summer Accordion School

The International Summer Accordion School opened today in Bijeljina, featuring Yuri Shishkin, one of the world’s most respected accordionists, as lecturer and mentor.

The six-day programme is organised by the Kornelije Stanković Primary Music School and the Artist Association, giving young musicians from across the region an opportunity to improve their skills through intensive masterclasses and artistic programmes.

Shishkin said that Republika Srpska is becoming a global centre of accordion music thanks to this school and the “Days of Accordion” event in Bijeljina.

According to him, the creative school and the many gatherings of young artists it has hosted have already produced musicians of world-class calibre.

International Summer School organiser Slaviša Perić said that, for the fifth consecutive year, Bijeljina has become a meeting point for the most talented young accordionists from the country and the wider region.

“Our summer school has, over the years, grown into one of the most important educational projects for accordion music in this part of Europe,” Perić said.

He added that only the best and most talented pupils and students from Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and other countries in the region have the opportunity to attend the summer school.

“Working with an artist such as Shishkin is a privilege and an experience that can have a major impact on their future artistic development. From the very beginning, our goal has been to enable young talents to receive top-level music education right here, without having to leave for major European music centres,” Perić said.

Viktor Cimert from Montenegro told reporters that he is taking part in the Summer Accordion School in Bijeljina for the fourth year in a row and described it as a valuable experience for his development and improvement.

“In addition to the knowledge I gain here, I am especially glad to have met many new friends and colleagues who share the same love of music. The atmosphere is always excellent, and the exchange of experience and joint work motivate me even more to keep progressing,” Cimert said.
