The geopolitical position of Republika Srpska is undoubtedly favourable today, as it maintains good relations with the new United States administration, the Russian Federation and China, SNSD President Milorad Dodik stated.
“Of course, you can never have everything exactly the way you want it. We have good relations with the new U.S. administration, excellent strategic relations with the Russian Federation, and we are building strong ties with China,” Dodik told reporters ahead of the panel discussion “The Geostrategic Position of Republika Srpska” in Trebinje.
Dodik added that there are disagreements with the Brussels administration, which he described as the worst in the history of the European Union, arguing that it would be best for Republika Srpska to wait for a new generation of European leaders.
“Our strategic interest is membership in the European Union, but not at any cost. We do not want to be part of a Europe where we have no voice, where we serve merely as logistical support for new military structures or simply implement decisions made by others without being consulted. That would be a humiliation,” Dodik said.
According to him, Republika Srpska is trying to avoid being drawn into broader geopolitical disputes, particularly those between the European Union and Russia.
Dodik argued that the EU is effectively conducting a proxy conflict with Russia through Ukraine, pointing to the billions of euros allocated to support Kyiv. He added that the European Union is increasingly transforming itself from a political organization into a military-oriented structure.
“The fact that Germany is significantly rearming and prepared to allocate enormous financial resources for remilitarization should concern us. Historically, whenever Germany has rearmed, the consequences for the Serbian people have been serious. We should not be naive,” Dodik stated.
He noted that one of the aims of the Trebinje forum was to bring these geopolitical topics closer to the public and encourage discussion about global developments.
The panel, he said, would focus on international relations and how Republika Srpska can align its policies in order to remain stable during a period of global uncertainty.
“The key question is how to strengthen Republika Srpska, preserve its position and successfully navigate emerging geopolitical realities,” Dodik concluded.
